HackHPI2022 tries to make IT clean. Digitalization is currently responsible for 2 billion tons of CO2 emission, twice as high as global air traffic. But digital solutions are also crucial for tackling climate change. In the hackathon, we work on both finding IT solutions to tackle the problem of climate change, as well as reducing the environmental impact of IT products.
For a weekend of hacking, we will bring motivated students from diffrent backrounds together at HPI, just outside of of Berlin. By providing world class sponsors including workshops and access to their data and APIs, a great location and plenty of caffeine to fuel your brain we will create a space for creativity, inspiring ideas and a passion for trying out new things.

We believe that Hackathons need the human contact that only in-person events can provide. We are planning firmly that we will be able to conduct the Hackathon with our hygiene concept in presence.
We plan our hackathon as a 2g+ event. Meaning that every participant needs to be vaccinated or recovered. We will provide rapid self-tests, which every participant is required to do before the event.
We believe that diverse teams come up with more creative solutions. A hackathon should be a way to experience teamwork and work on your abilities. We, therefore, encourage every major to apply and welcome also young professionals. However, due to legal reasons, every participant has to be 18 years old or older.
PET bottles are so 2010 - tap water is the future, we think. That's why we signed the Dopper P.E.T. Free Pledge meaning that the event will be PET free.
Nope! HackHPI is completely free, we provide you with food, drinks and a lot of caffeine during the whole Hackathon.

Should you need a faster response, indicate it in the form and we will try to contact you faster.
All challenges are connected to the subject of clean IT. This means they either tackle climate change through digital solutions or the environmental problems that arise through the use of digital products. The exact challenges will be announced later on.
Feel free to use whatever you will feel most comfortable with. Our partners will be happy to help you with their API and know-how.
